These are a few of my favorite things!

There is so much out there to assist parents now a days with.. well just about everything!  Somethings have worked for us and somethings have SAVED us!  Truly I don’t know what parents did before all of these new fangled inventions.  So these are my favorite things that have made life a bit easier and a little more fun!

City Mini Stroller

At a starting price of $299 I can see how some may think this stroller is over priced and there are so many other more affordable options.  Now having used this stroller almost everyday since Sam was born… I would have paid $500 for it.  It is the easiest thing to fold up, store, and use.  It’s so light weight and turns on a dime, which is nice when we’ve been out shopping and going through aisle ways.   It collapses with one pull and stores so nicely in my trunk.  I can do it with one hand!  In my opinion your stroller is something to invest in.  It makes life so much easier when I am out with Sam by myself.  I can’t wait to use it when Sam is older and doesn’t have to have the car seat adapter.  It will be even lighter!

Smashbox photo finish hydrating under eye primer

While in Sephora looking for a new lip gloss, I started looking for a concealer for the ever so obvious dark circles under my eyes.  My sister stumbled across this Smashbox product.  I was really interested in the de-puffing it advertised as well.  So of course I took a sample and waited to see if the results were actually true.  This is the conversation I had with my sister:
Me- “Stuff like this never works.  I think I should just get a concealor.”
Jenna- “Well, just give it a minute.”
Me (while looking in the mirror)- “I know but I think I just need more coverage… wait.  Omg, is this actually working?”
Jenna-“Totally.  This eye is way less puffy.”
Me- “Omg, I think this actually worked.  It’s not as dark!”

From Smashbox’s website, this is the description:
10 under-eye benefits, 1 primer breakthrough for:
• Hydration, dark circles, puffiness, radiance, fine lines and wrinkles, texture, skin tone, age spots, clarity, soothing

• Wear alone to instantly brighten
• Wear under concealer to keep it looking fresher, better
• Unlike moisturizer, signature silky primer texture prevents concealer from slipping off and settling into fine lines
• Infused with anti-aging, good-for-your-eyes ingredients such as caffeine, peptides and optical diffusers

• Key immediate benefits:
o 69% increase in hydration-so don’t worry about skipping moisturizer!
o 56% improvement in clarity
o 46% improvement in radiance

• Key benefits in 8 weeks:
o 37% decrease in appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
o 28% reduction of dark circles
o 21% decrease of puffiness

So in my opinion this product actually does do what it advertises.  It comes at a bit of a price at $29 for a small tube but totally worth it.  It only takes a small dab to get the job done and the other thing that I love about this is you can wear it even if you don’t have makeup on.  Unlike concealor that turns your under eye a different shade this just moisturizes.  So, I can throw it on, along with some mascara and lip gloss and not feel as though I’m going to scare anyone while running errands.

Baby Einstein mobile

Sleep….Sleep….  I swear there is a secret baby code that it gives out because Sam falls asleep to the sound of this every time he takes a nap and bedtime.  It’s so soothing with the little fish that slowly move around and the dim light that mimics a fish tank.  You can choose to have just the music play or sounds of the ocean.  Or you can have the light and music/sound play.  My only complaint is that I think it can be a bit too loud at times.  I’ve put a thin cloth between the mobile and the crib to buffer some of the sound and that seems to have done the trick.  From day one I wanted Sam to learn very early on how to fall asleep.  Babies aren’t born knowing how to accomplish this, it is a learned behavior.  This mobile helped Sam learn how to fall asleep by himself in his crib.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Northface zip up

This was given to us as a gift when Sam was born.  I just used it for the first time last week and I love it.  It is so thin yet keeps this little boy oh so warm.  So many of the full body zip ups are so bulky and your baby really shouldn’t wear them while in their car seat because they aren’t able to be strapped in as snug as they should be.  The northface is perfect for keeping Sammy boy nice and toasty and is safe to use in the car seat.

Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child

Get this book asap.  Dr. Weissbluth is a pediatrician who is, in my opinion, the sleep whisperer.  I know of several mom’s who swear by this book and I can attest that I am now one of them.  Dr. Weissbluth goes over the best course of action for sleep problems, common mistakes that parents make to get their children to sleep, explains the different sleep cycles and their importance, and focuses on the difference between night sleep and day sleep (naps).  One of the key points I took away from this book is to create healthy sleep habits now not correct bad sleeping habits later.  So although Sam may sleep for twice as long in his swing vs his crib, it’s not what’s in the best interest for him in the long run.  Put the time up front and then reap the benefits later.

It took me only 3 days for Sam to take hour+ long naps in his crib.  The first day he would only sleep for 20 minutes at a time.  The second day he slept for 35 minutes at a time.  By the third day he was up to 45 minutes.  Dr. Weissbluth also states that anything less than 45 minutes is not a nap.  So if Sam ever wakes up before that mark I will pop his pacifier in and 9/10 times he falls right back asleep for another 15-20 or so.

I really like this book because it helped me understand why sleep is so important for Sam which gave me the confidence I needed to be successful.

I will now leave you with this adorable picture of Sam in his new hat.  Precious!  Have a great weekend!
